🚧 Currently Closed for Renovation

The Musée National de Céramique at Sèvres is currently closed for a major renovation project. The closure covers both the museum galleries and the historic manufacture buildings. Reopening is expected in the coming years — check the museum’s official website (musee-ceramique.fr) for confirmed dates before planning a visit.

Reopening: date to be confirmed
Planning a visit? The museum cannot be visited in 2026. Your Paris Museum Pass will be valid here once renovations are complete. In the meantime, the Musée Guimet and Musée des Arts Décoratifs — both on the pass — have significant decorative arts and ceramics collections.

About the Museum

The Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres has operated continuously since 1756, when Louis XV moved the porcelain works from Vincennes to the town of Sèvres — conveniently close to his mistress Madame de Pompadour’s château at Bellevue. The manufactory quickly became synonymous with the finest European soft-paste porcelain, producing elaborate service sets for royalty across Europe and pioneering the distinctive “Sèvres blue” (bleu de Sèvres) that remains one of the most recognisable colours in decorative arts.

The museum alongside the active manufacture holds around 50,000 objects spanning the history of ceramics worldwide — not just French porcelain but majolica, faïence, stoneware, and ceramics from Asia, the Islamic world, and pre-Columbian America. It is one of the most comprehensive ceramics collections in the world. The manufacture itself continues to produce high-end porcelain for official state use and commercial commissions.
